IndexNow for Squarespace

Squarespace does not let you serve a plain .txt file. Create a minimal page that outputs only the key and point keyLocation at it.

Step by step

1. 1 Create a new blank page and set its URL slug to your key, e.g. /a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8c9d0e1f2a3b4c5d6.
2. 2 Add a Code block containing only your key, with formatting disabled.
3. 3 Set the page to hidden from navigation but published.
4. 4 Paste the page URL into the Custom key location field in Index-now, then click Verify.

The key shown is an example. Yours is generated when you add the domain.

Watch out for

• Squarespace wraps pages in HTML, so verification will usually report an HTML response — a page is not a plain text file.
• Even when it loads, a key served from a page path only authorises URLs under that path, so it cannot cover your whole site.
• For real coverage, put Cloudflare in front of Squarespace and serve the key at the root with a Worker. That is the recommended setup for this platform.

Then what?

Hosting the key file proves you own the domain — it doesn't submit anything on its own. You still need something watching for changes and calling the IndexNow API with the right URLs at the right time. You can build that yourself, or let us run it for $12 a year.
